Pitch and Weather Report
The current pitch conditions heavily favour the bowlers. In the recent India vs. Sri Lanka match, spinners played a prominent role, with Dunith Wellalage particularly impressive, taking 5 wickets. The pacers will need to correct their lengths to be effective and take crucial wickets. Notably, Indian pacers demonstrated brilliant length adjustments compared to their Sri Lankan counterparts.
Although overcast conditions might raise concerns among fans, there is optimism that the duration of precipitation may decrease. While there’s a possibility of losing some overs, this could potentially impact both teams’ strategies and performance.

PAK vs SL: Super 4 Match 5 Preview
Team Pakistan
Pakistan came into the tournament as favourites but failed to make such an impact. The top order is not in-form especially the form of Fakhar Zaman. The middle order is heavily armoured by Iftikhar Ahmed and Mohammed Rizwan. Their bowling looks a bit weak at the moment because their prime bowlers Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah got injured in the match against India. Therefore, some new faces will play and Shaheen Afridi will be under pressure to deliver in the crunch game.
In the Super 4 stage, they had a fantastic start with the win over Bangladesh. They bowled tight lengths and Bangladesh batters had no time to settle and play strokes. Pakistan kept taking wickets and Bangladesh couldn’t recover and set a fighting total. They could manage to score 193 runs. While chasing a low total, Pakistan couldn’t got off the mark comfortably and the opener Fakhar Zaman fell early. The partnership between Imam-ul-Haq and Mohammed Rizwan flourished and they took the team home and Pakistan won by 7 wickets. Imam was unbeaten on 78 and Rizwan on 68.
The match against India was a crucial one. The Indian team was ready to tackle the pacers and they rightfully attacked them from the beginning. Pakistani bowlers tried everything to put brakes on the scorecard but couldn’t. Shaheen removed Shubman Gill after Rohit was dismissed by Shadab Khan. Both openers made fifties quickly. The rain came down and the match couldn’t resume the same day. There was a reserve day for this clash and hence Virat Kohli and KL Rahul resumed their batting.Pakistan bowlers couldn’t take a single wicket on the reserve day and with brilliant hundreds from both Virat and Rahul, India set the target of 356 runs.
Pakistan responded poorly as Indian pacers were all over Pakistan. They kept losing wickets and not a single could score a fifty. Kuldeep Yadav rattled their batting with his 5-Fer and in the end, Pakistan lost the match by 228 runs. For India, this victory is the biggest one in terms of run margin against Pakistan in the ODIs.
Team Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka had a perfect outing in the first game of the Super 4 round against Bangladesh. They won it by 21 runs with an all-round performance. However, the batting was an issue for them but their bowling made them survive. The partnership of Kusal Mendis and Sadeera Samarawickrama was brilliant and on the back of this, they managed to score 257 runs after the lower order crumbled under pressure. Mendis hit 50 while Sadeera went on to score crucial 93 runs.
In response to this, the bowlers were sharp and accurate in their line and lengths. They bowled fine spells and did not give any freebies to the batters. In the end, Maheesh Theekshana, Dasun Shanaka and Matheesha Pathirana took 9 wickets together and won the match comfortably by 21 runs.
They met India in the next match. India was off to a brilliant start and it seemed that the pitch was conducive to batting but then the spin introduction changed the game. Dunith Wellalage’s dream spell dismantled the Indian top order and had no answers to his spin bowling. Dasun Shanaka put another spinner Charith Asalanka from the other end to exert more pressure on Indians. Eventually, he got a 4-fer and India was bowled out on 213 runs.
In response, Indian pacers took the first few wickets in quick succession. Sri Lankan batters couldn’t bat in these hard conditions and they also succumbed. Dunith Wellalae and Dhanajaya de Silva did their best to take the game deep but the latter was dismissed and Dunith stayed at the non-striker’s end and the Indians took all other wickets. Sri Lanka lost the match by 41 runs which means this match is a do-or-die for them.
