Pitch and Weather Report

pitch and weather report

The pitch is favourable for batsmen to play strokes. There will be some movement off the pitch for the seamers but as the match progresses, spinners will come into play under the lights and dominate the proceedings like Kuldeep did in the last game against Pakistan.

The rain gods are not leaving the city at the moment and there are chances of precipitation though the intensity might be less and the duration could be a little less too. Therefore, it is unlikely to stay for a longer time and we might not lose overs in the match.

IND vs SL Super 4 match 4 preview

Team India

India will lock horns against Sri Lanka for the first time in this Asia Cup 2023. Now, the Super 4 stage has begun and India will look to dominate and win here to secure the spot in the final. After crushing Nepal by 10 wickets and then a thumping win against Pakistan in the Super 4 stage made India the favourites to qualify for the final. This match will be India’s batting vs Sri Lanka’s spin bowling.

India showed a dominant performance against Pakistan in the last match. With a huge win of 228 runs, India registered its highest win over Pakistan in the ODIs. After deciding to bat first, Indian openers were all over Pakistan’s bowlers from the first over. Both Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill scored fifties and provided India a solid start. Once they both got out, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul took charge and immediately rain interrupted and the match resumed the next day which was organized as a reserve day for this clash.

Both Kohli and Rahul smashed magnificent hundreds and helped India to reach 356 for 2 which means India didn’t lose a wicket on the reserve day. No Pakistan bowler was able to break this partnership. In response to this, Indian bowlers were too good for Pakistan. Jasprit Bumrah removed Imam-ul-Haq and set an example for others. Mohammed Siraj was economical and didn’t leak runs from the other end.

Kuldeep Yadav stole the show as he picked up a 5-wicket haul. Pakistan batters were helpless against his spin bowling and he kept taking wickets of the middle order. Hardik Pandya got rid of the Pakistan captain Babar Azam with a peach of a delivery. Pakistan was bundled out on 128 runs and since Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf got injured during the match, they did not come to bat and Pakistan innings were over after 128/8.

The skipper Rohit has struck his form while Gill looked solid in this game and India’s approach in this game was aggressive. Virat showed his masterclass and Rahul returned with an absolute bang. The bowlers did a fantastic job and it looked like a complete team that can win this match and play the Asia Cup final.

Team Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka had a mediocre performance in the group stages. A not-so-convincing win over Bangladesh in the first match due to disappointing batting raised questions. They survived a narrow win against Afghanistan after winning the match by 2 runs and reached the group stage. The top order of Pathum Nissanka and Dimuth Karunaratne haven’t got big runs under their belts. Only the middle order looked well-established and settled.

The first match was against Bangladesh in the Super 4 round. This time it was a fine team effort both with the bat and the ball. They struggled a bit in batting but did well to manage 257 runs on the board. The vital partnership between Kusal Mendis and Sadeera Samarawickrama put them in the driver’s seat. Mendis scored a fine fifty and then got dismissed while Sadeera went on to score 93 runs.

However, the bowling was pretty fantastic. The skipper Dasun Shanaka was impressive with the bowl picking up 3 wickets. Matheesha Pathirana and Maheesh Theekshana bowled fine spells to pick 3 wickets each which completely put Bangladesh out of the game and couldn’t recover. In the end, Sri Lanka won the match by 21 runs after surviving a little late cameo of Towhid Hridoy’s magnificent 82-run knock.

Team India

  • Virat Kohli is in good nick, amassing 126 runs in the tournament at an astonishing average of 126. It’s worth noting that he didn’t have the opportunity to bat against Nepal and therefore his average remains 126.
  • Rohit Sharma, India’s captain, has been in splendid form, registering back-to-back half-centuries. He currently has 141 runs to his name at an impressive average of 70.5.
  • Shubman Gill, the talented opener, has been consistent with the bat, accumulating 135 runs in the tournament at an excellent average of 67.5. His knock against Pakistan boosted his confidence to get some runs in the powerplay.
  • Kuldeep Yadav, the spin sensation, has been a standout performer with the ball. He picked up a remarkable 5-wicket haul in the previous match against Pakistan and currently has an outstanding average of 11.8.

Team Sri Lanka

  • Sadeera Samarawickrama has been in fine form, accumulating 150 runs in the tournament, resulting in a noteworthy average of 50.

  • On the bowling front, Maheesh Theekshana has been effective, securing 6 crucial wickets at an average of 25.
