AUS vs SA ICC Men’s CWC 2023 Match Preview
Australia Preview
They are one of the favourites of this tournament. However, the 5-times champions lost their opening match against the host India. The skipper Pat Cummins decided to bowl first after winning the toss but it didn’t favour him. Mitchel Marsh went for a duck but then David Warner and premier batsman Steve Smith stitched a fine partnership to keep the scoreboard ticking. They were set and the partnership was threatening but the brilliant bowling of Kuldeep Yadav removed dangerous Warner.
After that, wickets continued to tumble down and the Indian spinners dismantled the Australian batting order. They were able to set 199 on the board but their bowlers were outstanding in the first few overs reeling India on 2 for 3. The masterclass of Virat Kohli and KL Rahul rescued India and put it in a commanding position. The ace bowler Mitchel Starc took one wicket while Josh Hazlewood was brilliant and picked up 3 crucial wickets. Indian spinners dominated the bowling but the Australian main spinner Adam Zampa went for plenty of runs and this one hurt the Aussies most.
Talking about this game, Australia toured South Africa recently. They won the T20I series by 3-0 and then they were leading the ODI series by 2-0 but South Africa bounced back to win the remaining games and won the series by 3-2. Marnus Labuschagne was the leading run-scorer and Adam Zampa was the 2nd highest wicket-taker for Australia. Therefore, this contest is a tough one for the Aussies and they have to win it after losing the first match.
South Africa Preview
They came into this World Cup without their prime bowler Anrich Nortje who got injured before this mega event but they had an excellent start to this campaign. The first match against Sri Lanka was all about runs. They hammered 428 runs which was the highest ODI score in the World Cups. After being asked to bat first, the skipper Temba Bavuma fell early but Quinton de Cock and Rassie van der Dussen made an excellent partnership and both the batters scored hundreds.
The fastest hundred in the ODI World Cup came from Aiden Markram who took just 49 balls. His contribution along with the cameos of Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller set the mammoth total of 428 runs. This is the first time in World Cup history that the three batters smashed centuries. They batted aggressively and came down hard heavily on Sri Lankan bowlers. In reply, they were quite brilliant initially. Marco Jensen sent back both the openers. Kagiso Rabada removed the dangerous Kusal Mendis who was smashing all bowlers everywhere.
The ODI debutant Gerald Coetzee was brilliant too who picked up three wickets. Keshav Maharaj also scalped two crucial wickets and in the end, they bowled out Sri Lanka on 326 and won the match comfortably by 102 runs. It was a complete performance from them and they would like to keep the winning momentum going.
